Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

Hi, I’m Vyara
Taking the first step towards therapy can feel a little daunting, and finding someone you feel comfortable with really matters. For over seven years, I’ve supported people through trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional overwhelm, helping them feel more confident and in control of their mental health.
I work through my private practice, Reclaim Your Peace, offering online sessions. In the near future I plan to offer also face to face sessions in North London and in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach recommended by NHS and NICE, but I always tailor therapy to you as a whole person. I work in a trauma-informed and inclusive way, taking care to understand your experiences, background, and what feels most important to you.
More than anything, I aim to create a warm, supportive space where you can feel at ease, listened to, and understood. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll work together at a pace that feels right for you, focusing on practical tools as well as deeper understanding.
If you feel ready to take the next step, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

ABOUT
How It All Began
My interest in the mind and human behaviour began in high school. I was fascinated by how our thoughts, emotions and experiences shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. That early curiosity stayed with me and gradually grew into a strong desire to work in mental health and support others through life’s challenges.
Since 2016, I have been working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, supporting both young adults and older people experiencing a range of short- and long-term mental health difficulties. Throughout my career, I have been guided by the belief that meaningful change happens when people feel genuinely heard, respected and understood.
My Journey in Mental Health
I began my professional journey in 2016 as a mental health volunteer with Mind, where I organised different group activities such as gardening, mindfulness and yoga, and I worked with young people and adults experiencing complex mental health conditions, including personality disorders, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This role gave me invaluable frontline experience and helped shape my compassionate, trauma-informed and person-centred approach. I learned early on the importance of meeting people where they are, rather than expecting them to fit into a rigid model of care.
After returning to work following maternity leave, I joined an older adults inpatient mental health service in 2020. In this setting, I supported individuals experiencing severe and enduring mental illness, often at times of significant vulnerability. This experience deepened my understanding of the impact of mental health difficulties across the lifespan and reinforced the importance of individualised, dignified and holistic care, particularly when working with complex needs.
In 2021, I began my formal training in Low-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, going on to work as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP). This role strengthened my skills in structured assessment, evidence-based intervention and collaborative goal-setting. I later completed High-Intensity CBT training and now practise as a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I am registered with the BABCP, and my accreditation can be verified on the CBT Register
My Practice Today
Today, I specialise in working with adults experiencing a wide range of anxiety, depression-related difficulties and trauma. This includes OCD, social anxiety, PTSD, panic disorder, health anxiety, phobias, body dysmorphia, stress, perfectionism, low self-esteem and depression. I work with both mild, moderate and more complex presentations, adapting my approach to meet each person’s individual needs, strengths and personal goals.
My therapeutic work is grounded in evidence-based CBT, delivered in line with NICE guidance, while remaining flexible, compassionate and responsive to the person in front of me. I place strong emphasis on building a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship and creating a collaborative space where clients feel empowered to make meaningful and sustainable changes.
Alongside my clinical work, I also mentor trainee therapists, supporting them to practise ethically, safely and in accordance with NICE guidelines and professional standards. I find this role deeply rewarding and value the opportunity to contribute to the development of thoughtful, reflective and skilled clinicians.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed and respectful practice. I see therapy as a partnership, and I feel privileged to walk alongside people as they work towards greater understanding, confidence and wellbeing.
I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office and regularly renew my enhanced DBS certificate that states I am suitable for working with young people and vulnerable adults.

I have had the privilege of supporting people through a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. As a CBT practitioner, it has been incredibly meaningful to walk alongside clients as they develop insight, build practical skills, and begin to feel more confident in managing life’s challenges. I have witnessed many people make lasting, positive changes—learning new ways to respond to distress, reconnecting with their values, and moving forward with greater hope and self-belief.
My work has included supporting parents to strengthen relationships with their children and navigate challenging behaviours with compassion and clarity. I have worked with clients to improve communication, repair trust, manage conflict, and, where appropriate, find the strength and confidence to make difficult but necessary decisions about their relationships. I also work supporting young people, adults, and older adults, always adapting my approach to the individual’s needs, context, and goals.
Above all, I find it deeply rewarding to see clients leave therapy feeling more empowered, optimistic, and equipped with tools they can continue to use long after our work together has ended.
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on the present while acknowledging how past experiences may shape your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. At its core, CBT emphasizes the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, helping you understand how your mindset influences your emotional well-being and daily experiences.
CBT operates on the idea that many of our challenges stem from negative or unhelpful thought patterns. These patterns can affect how we perceive situations, leading to emotional distress and unhealthy behaviors. Through CBT, you’ll work to identify and reframe these negative thoughts, creating a ripple effect that improves how you feel and act in everyday life.
One of the defining features of CBT is its goal-oriented, collaborative approach. You play an active role in your therapy journey, with sessions designed to be hands-on and interactive. Between sessions, you may be given practical exercises or “homework” to apply what you’ve learned, helping you build new habits and reinforce positive changes. These tasks are reviewed in subsequent sessions, ensuring you’re continually progressing toward your goals.

My Practice Approach
At Reclaim Your Peace Therapy Practice, we recognise that each individual is unique, and no two people have the same needs. As a compassionate therapist, I will tailor the therapeutic process to suit your specific goals and challenges. I deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care.

CBT is typically a short-term therapy (6-20 sessions), with weekly 50-minute sessions. The number of sessions you’ll need varies depending on your individual goals and progress, which you and your therapist will regularly evaluate together.
Beyond addressing immediate concerns, CBT equips you with a versatile toolkit of strategies that you can use long after therapy concludes. These skills empower you to manage future challenges more effectively, fostering resilience and enhancing your overall well-being.
Appointments and Fees
Initial Assessment
The initial meeting between the therapist and client typically lasts 45 minutes. During this session you will get a feel for our therapy approach and share your goals. This is a crucial step in beginning your journey towards growth and healing.
Following the assessment, we will determine whether CBT is a suitable approach for your needs. If it is, we will agree on a treatment plan, including the recommended number of sessions.
If CBT is not the right fit, we will guide you toward a more appropriate service or support option. Our therapist-client relationship is built on trust and confidentiality, providing you a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Therapy Session
Our therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes and are scheduled for the same day and time each week for consistency. Our focus is on providing a professional and supportive environment for our clients to navigate their mental health journey. With a commitment to regular sessions, we aim to help individuals achieve sustainable growth and healing.

I offer flexible Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) sessions via Zoom video or over the phone, making mental health support accessible to everyone.
Extensive research has shown that therapy conducted online or over the phone is just as effective as face-to-face sessions.

Clients are required to notify me at least 24 hours in advance if they need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may incur a fee for the missed appointment. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
